ZNA Command Handover Ceremony Marks Transition From General Rtd. AN. Sanyatwe to Lt. Gen. E. Matatu

Charles Gumbo Barracks, Harare – Earlier today, the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) witnessed a formal handover-takeover ceremony at the Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare, marking the transition of leadership from outgoing Commander Lieutenant General (Retired) Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe to the incoming Army Commander, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Matatu.

The ceremony, attended by various dignitaries and military officials, emphasized the continuity of leadership within the armed forces and the importance of maintaining stability in the region.

Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander, General Philip Valerio Sibanda, served as the witnessing officer during the proceedings.

In his opening remarks, General Sibanda praised Lieutenant General Sanyatwe for his dedicated service and contributions to the ZNA over the years.

He highlighted the achievements made under Sanyatwe’s leadership, particularly in professionalizing the army, enhancing military preparedness and fostering regional cooperation.

Lieutenant General Sanyatwe, retired after an illustrious and distinguished career spanning decades, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation and the military.

“It has been an honor to lead such a dedicated group of men and women,” he stated. “Together, we have faced numerous challenges and achieved significant milestones. I am confident that the army will continue to thrive under the capable leadership of General Matatu.”

The incoming commander, Lieutenant General Matatu, brings with him a wealth of experience and a commitment to upholding the values and mission of the Zimbabwe National Army.

In his address, Lt. Gen. Matatu spoke of his vision for the future, emphasizing the need for continuity, modernization and adaptation to new security challenges.

“As we move forward, we must embrace innovation while remaining steadfast in our core principles. The security of our nation depends on our ability to evolve and respond effectively to emerging threats,” Lt. Gen. Matatu remarked.

The ceremony also included a parade showcasing the impressive capabilities of the ZNA, demonstrating the army’s readiness to respond to any situation that may threaten national security.

The event underscored the military’s role in safeguarding the sovereignty and stability of Zimbabwe.
