Brave Guards Thwart Armed Robbery at Mabvuku Service Station

Mabvuku, Harare – In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, two security guards from Real Star Security confronted a gang of eight armed robbers at a Petrotrade service station in Mabvuku early Thursday morning.

The incident, which unfolded just after 1AM, has drawn widespread admiration and recognition for the guards’ heroic actions.

Real Star Secuirty Guards, Bhekimpilo Sibanda and Isaac Nhamo were on their night shift when they noticed suspicious activity around the service station.

Despite being outnumbered and facing armed assailants, the guards did not hesitate to engage the robbers. Armed with a .303 service rifle, Sibanda led the charge, resulting in an intense gunfight that forced the intruders to abandon their mission.

The robbers had cut through a section of the perimeter fence on the southern side of the premises, gaining entry to the compound shortly after the station had closed for business at 8 PM the previous evening.

The guards’ vigilance and preparedness were pivotal in thwarting what could have been a disastrous robbery.

During the exchange of gunfire, Sibanda reportedly wounded the gang’s suspected leader, demonstrating not only bravery but also considerable marksmanship.

The robbers, realizing they were met with unexpected resistance, retaliated by firing back at the guards. However, the determined duo continued to hold their ground, managing to call for backup while effectively preventing the robbers from advancing further.

Their actions proved decisive; as the armed gang retreated towards Mutare Road, they fled empty-handed, leaving behind their plans for a daring heist.

The quick response from a nearby Real Star Security reaction team and local police ensured that the area was secured, although the robbers had already made good their escape by the time reinforcements arrived.

In acknowledgment of their bravery, Real Star Security awarded Sibanda and Nhamo with grocery hampers and cash rewards of US$2,000 each.

This gesture not only recognizes their courage but also underscores the company’s commitment to rewarding exemplary service within its ranks.

“We are proud of our guards, Bhekimpilo Sibanda and Isaac Nhamo, for their vigilance and courage. Their quick thinking and fearless response helped avert what could have been a major loss,” stated Mr. Oskah Mugomeri, Real Star Security’s assistant operations manager.

Mugomeri, a former senior police officer with over thirty years of experience in law enforcement, praised the guards for their professionalism and dedication.

His extensive background in security emphasizes the importance of effective response strategies in high-pressure situations.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the attempted robbery and the ongoing investigations into the incident.

“No guard was injured and the robbers left without taking anything,” said Inspector Chakanza, reassuring the public of the police’s commitment to maintaining safety in the community.

The police are currently reviewing security footage and gathering evidence to identify the suspects involved in this brazen act of criminality.

The authorities urge anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the community’s role in enhancing security.

The incident has sparked conversations about safety and security in Mabvuku and surrounding areas.

Local residents expressed their relief that the guards were unharmed and praised their bravery.

Many have taken to social media to commend the guards and share their own experiences with crime in the area, highlighting the need for increased security measures.

Community leaders are now calling for more robust partnerships between local businesses and security firms to bolster safety initiatives.

“We cannot underestimate the importance of having vigilant security personnel in our neighborhoods. This incident is a wake-up call for all of us,” said a local resident.

The attempted robbery at the Petrotrade service station is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by security personnel in urban areas.

However, the bravery displayed by Bhekimpilo Sibanda and Isaac Nhamo serves as an inspiring example of courage in the face of danger.

Their actions not only protected the property but also ensured the safety of the community at large.

As investigations continue, the story of these guards will undoubtedly resonate within the community, reinforcing the message that vigilance and bravery can lead to positive outcomes, even in the most challenging situations.

Real Star Security’s recognition of their employees’ bravery stands as a testament to the importance of dedication and professionalism in the security industry.
