Nyanga North Celebrates Electrification Milestone at Kazozo
4 min read
Nyanga North – A new dawn of development and opportunity is set to break in Nyanga North Constituency this weekend as the Government officially commissions the Mangezi–Kazozo Electrification Project, marking another milestone in Zimbabwe’s ongoing rural transformation drive.
The ceremony will take place at Kazozo Secondary School on Saturday, 11 October 2025, starting at 0800 hours.
The event will be graced by the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Hon. July Moyo, who will officiate as Guest of Honour, accompanied by senior government officials, community leaders, and residents from across Nyanga District and the wider Manicaland Province.
The electrification project, implemented through the Rural Electrification Fund (REF), covers a significant stretch from Tsengerai in Ruwangwe to Kazozo and Mukunza under Phase One of the initiative.
It is one of eight rural electrification projects identified for commissioning across the country in 2025, reflecting the Government’s commitment to bringing modern energy access to rural communities.
For years, rural communities in Nyanga North have endured the challenges of living without reliable electricity — limited access to information, restricted economic activities, and constrained educational opportunities.
The new power connections will therefore mark a profound transformation in daily life for thousands of families, schools, and small businesses across the area.
The Rural Electrification Fund recently electrified various projects in Nyanga District, Manicaland Province, under the Rural Electrification Programme.
This project has been identified among eight projects being officially commissioned by the Honourable Minister of Energy and Power Development in the eight provinces of Zimbabwe during 2025.
The commissioning of the Mangezi–Kazozo line will not only connect homes and institutions to the national grid but will also enhance service delivery in schools, clinics, and community centres.
Hon. Chido Sanyatwe, who can’t hide her hapiness at such a milestone, expressed gratitude to the President His Excellency Dr ED Mnangagwa through the Ministry of Energy and Power Development for prioritizing Nyanga North in this year’s rollout.
In her message to constituents, she invited all residents to attend the landmark event, emphasizing that this is a collective celebration of progress:
Hon. Sanyatwe has called upon all families from across Nyanga North Constituency, the wider Nyanga District, and Manicaland Province to join in the celebrations, noting that transportation would be arranged from various wards with diesel provided for the vehicles.
This gesture, she said, ensures that no one is left out of a development milestone that belongs to the entire community and is worthy to be celebrated.
Since its inception in 2002, the Rural Electrification Fund has connected thousands of rural institutions and households to the national power grid, catalyzing rural industrialization and improving livelihoods.
The Mangezi–Kazozo project in Nyanga North Constituency represents the next chapter in this ongoing mission to bridge the urban–rural divide.
Under the astute leadership of His Excellency President Mnangagwa, the Second Republic has accelerated the implementation of rural infrastructure projects — from roads and water systems to electrification — as part of the broader Vision 2030 agenda to achieve an upper middle-income economy by the end of the decade.
Energy access is a key pillar of that vision, enabling growth in agriculture, education, healthcare, and small-scale enterprise.
With reliable electricity, rural schools like Mangezi, Mukunza, Kazozo Primary and Secondary can now use digital learning tools; clinics like Mukunza can store vaccines safely; and small businesses at Mangezi, Kazozo and Mukunza can thrive through innovation and value addition.
Saturday’s event is expected to draw a large crowd, including traditional leaders, church groups, youth organizations, and women’s cooperatives — all eager to witness the switch-on ceremony that symbolizes light, progress, and empowerment.
Hon. Sanyatwe emphasized that beyond the ceremony, the real impact will be felt in the lives of ordinary citizens who will now be able to dream bigger, work smarter, and connect with the rest of the world.
“This is not just about electricity,” she said. “It is about restoring dignity and opening opportunities for our children. When the lights come on in Kazozo, it means a brighter future for every household in Nyanga North.”
Phase One of the Mangezi–Kazozo Electrification Project sets the stage for further expansion to other wards under subsequent phases.
With continued government support and stakeholder cooperation, Nyanga North is poised to become a model for rural transformation in Manicaland.
As preparations reach their peak, excitement is building across the constituency.
The commissioning of the project not only signifies the successful completion of vital infrastructure but also embodies the spirit of unity, resilience, and progress that defines the people of Nyanga.
