NYANGA NORTH, ZIMBABWE – The Women’s Mukando Enhancement Programme has officially taken off in Nyanga North Constituency, bringing renewed hope and economic opportunities to women’s savings groups in Wards 9 and 14 after they received modern cooking equipment designed to enhance their income-generating activities.
Under the programme, women’s Mukando groups received four-plate gas stoves and industrial 45-kilogram gas tanks, resources expected to significantly improve productivity and support small business ventures within their communities.
The initiative was made possible through the Community Development Empowerment Organization (CDEO), which launched the programme as part of broader efforts to empower women and strengthen community-based economic activities.
The Women’s Mukando Enhancement Programme is targeting existing women’s Mukando groups across Nyanga North Constituency, providing them with practical tools that can be used to increase household incomes, improve efficiency in community projects and support local entrepreneurship.
Mukando groups have become an important pillar of rural economic development in Zimbabwe. Through collective savings and lending mechanisms, women are able to pool resources, support one another financially and invest in various income-generating activities ranging from agriculture and food processing to retail trading and catering services.
Speaking during the launch, Honourable Chido Sanyatwe applauded the Community Development Empowerment Organization for introducing a programme that directly addresses the needs of women at grassroots level.
She emphasized the importance of partnerships between government, communities and Private Voluntary Organisations (PVOs) in driving sustainable development and improving the quality of life for ordinary citizens.
Hon. Sanyatwe challenged organisations operating within Nyanga North Constituency to implement transformative projects that bring tangible benefits to communities and align with the national development agenda.
She noted that programmes such as the Women’s Mukando Enhancement Programme are critical in advancing the vision of President His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, whose development philosophy is anchored on ensuring that no one and no place is left behind.
“The empowerment of women remains one of the most effective pathways towards poverty reduction and sustainable development. When women are empowered economically, families benefit, communities prosper and the nation moves forward,” she said.
The provision of four-plate gas stoves and industrial gas tanks is expected to assist women’s groups in expanding catering operations, food processing projects and other community enterprises that require reliable cooking facilities.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, saying the equipment would help reduce operational costs while increasing production capacity.
