Zimbabwe reaffirms the strong historical and diplomatic ties that exist between Harare and Kampala.

Relations between Zimbabwe and Uganda date back decades and are rooted in the liberation struggles that shaped the political destiny of many African nations.

Upon arrival in Uganda, VP General (Rtd.) Dr. Chiwenga was warmly welcomed by Zimbabwe’s Deputy Ambassador to Uganda, Ms Silibaziso Manyonga, alongside senior Ugandan Government officials.

Also present to receive the Vice President was Uganda’s Democratic Party President and Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Mr Norbert Mao.

The visit by VP General (Rtd.) Dr. Chiwenga reflects the enduring bonds of solidarity between Zimbabwe and Uganda, two nations that continue to champion Pan Africanism, regional cooperation and African-led development initiatives.

President Museveni’s inauguration is expected to attract several regional leaders, diplomats and dignitaries from across the African continent and beyond, underlining Uganda’s strategic importance within the East African Community and the broader African political landscape.

Political analysts say the participation of Zimbabwe at such a high level demonstrates the Second Republic’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with fellow African states while advancing the vision of continental unity espoused by the founding fathers of Africa’s liberation movements.

Zimbabwe and Uganda have over the years maintained cordial relations in sectors that include trade, agriculture, education, defence cooperation and regional diplomacy.

The two countries have also consistently supported each other in regional and international forums.

Tomorrow’s inauguration ceremony is expected to be marked by celebrations, military displays and cultural performances as Ugandans gather to witness President Museveni taking the oath of office once again.

For Zimbabwe, the presence of VP General (Rtd.) Dr. Chiwenga at the historic occasion signifies not only diplomatic goodwill, but also the continued strengthening of African brotherhood and solidarity among nations that share a common liberation history and vision for a prosperous continent.
